The Australian Federal Government recently announced the launch of the Home Sustainability Assessment Scheme (HSAS) and the Green Loans Program. The program is an Australia wide, 5 year, $300 million program that will commence on 1st July, 2009.

Sustainable Footprint has recently been appointed as an training organisation for the Federal Government for the Home Sustainability Assessment Scheme (HSAS).

The Green Loans Program helps Australians make the right choices for their home and their budget by providing access to tailored information from in-home assessments and funding from financial partners. A tailored free Home Sustainability Assessment coupled with access to an interest free Green Loan product of up to $10,000 will enable home owners to make improvements and reap the savings from less energy and water use around their homes.

Getting a free Home Sustainability Assessment is the first step to qualifying for a Green Loan product from a financial partner. The Australian Government will subsidise the interest on a Green Loan of up to $10,000 for a period of four years - which means it's interest free for that period.

More than 1000 people have undertaken Home Sustainability Assessor training to become accredited by the Association of Building Sustainability
Assessors, forming part of the new low-pollution workforce.

The five year initiative will help an estimated 360,000 Australian homes, provide work for more than 1000 home sustainability assessors and encourage an estimated $400 million in green inspired stimulus for the economy. It is anticipated that there the program will be extremely popular and there will be a number of households applying for the loan across Australia.
