Exit and Emergency Lighting Maintenance

Exit sign

Emergency / exit lighting systems in buildings are required (under Part 11.1 of the Building Code of Australia and Part 11 of the Building Regulations 1994) to be adequately maintained.  The standard recognised for such maintenance is AS/NZS 2293.2.  The standard prescribes, that the installation be tested at six-monthly intervals by a discharge test to see that the fittings operate for the required duration of not less than 90 minutes.  In addition, at twelve-monthly intervals the fitting diffusers and reflecting surfaces are required to be cleaned.

Quite aside from the legal requirement to carry out the maintenance, it is worthwhile noting that there is usually a considerable financial investment in the emergency lighting installation and proper maintenance will maximise its operational life at the minimum owning cost.  It is also appropriate to consider occupational health and safety and public liability aspects.

The owner or manager of a building, equipped with emergency lighting, has the responsibility for the safety of people using or working in the building and to ensure that the particular installation is operational in accordance with essential services requirements.

General Lighting Services Pty Ltd specialises in the servicing and maintaining of emergency evacuation lighting installations.

Our company was established in 1983 and is the sole authorised service agent for Legrand Australia, Australia's largest manufacturer of emergency lighting equipment.

We service installations of all manufacturers of emergency luminaires and perform this work for all sizes of installations ranging from nursing homes with only a few emergency lighting fittings to shopping centres, hospitals and high rise buildings that contain many hundreds.  Whilst we specialise in the repair of Legrand Australia equipment, much of our service and repair work is other makes of emergency lighting fittings.

We welcome the opportunity to quote for the work in buildings you manage.
